Original 1961 Cold War-era civil defense handbook titled Emergency Sanitation at Home: A Family Handbook H-1, issued by the Office of Civil and Defense Mobilization and printed by the U.S. Government Printing Office.

This fascinating Atomic Age preparedness booklet instructed American families how to cope with sanitation and survival needs during disasters or enemy attack. Topics include emergency water storage and purification, chlorination and iodine treatment, food safety, emergency toilets, human waste and garbage disposal, household supplies and radioactive fallout preparedness. The back includes instructions to listen to CONELRAD emergency broadcasts at 640 or 1240 AM.

This copy has an especially interesting local connection with an original Lorain County Civil Defense stamp on the front identifying Joseph D. Stockstill, Director, Sheffield Lake, Ohio.
