Antique c1855-1865 Hand Enhanced Portrait Photographs Pair Deep Wood Frames 15"
Striking matched pair of mid-19th-century photographic portraits featuring a gentleman and woman, presented in substantial period wood frames. The oval early paper photographs have a soft, matte appearance with visible hand-enhanced facial and clothing details characteristic of early photographic portraiture.
The unusually deep frames feature layered reddish-brown, black and gilt-finished moldings with delicate white painted decorative accents. Each measures approximately 15" x 13" x 3", giving the pair an impressive architectural presence when displayed together.
Photographic process cannot be definitively identified without examination outside the frames; believed to be salted-paper or a similar early paper photographic process. The individuals are unidentified.
Condition: Antique condition with significant age-related wear and damage. Frames have separated/open and damaged corners, losses and breaks to molding, scratches, finish and gilt loss, and general surface wear. Portraits show fading, discoloration, spotting/foxing and age. Backs retain old paper, tape, wire and other aged materials. Frames have not been restored. Please review all photographs carefully; condition is an important part of their history and presentation.

Materials: Wood, glass, paper photograph, paint/gilt finish, metal hanging wire
Colors: Reddish brown, black, gold, cream, sepia
